Commonwealth Games 2026 Medals Tally List: The Commonwealth Games 2026 (CWG 2026) held in Glasgow, Scotland, has concluded. The 11-day Games saw many impressive performances and a plethora of medals. Several sports were not included in the Games this time around, but the action was impressive. Indian athletes, in particular, performed much better than expected, ultimately finishing fourth with 39 medals. Australia, on the other hand, once again secured the top spot with the most medals, 171.
India’s journey was wonderful
Sunday, August 2nd, marked the final day of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Over the preceding two days, Indian athletes won a significant number of medals, significantly improving the country’s standing in the medal tally. Although the country didn’t win any medals on the final day, the Indian contingent still concluded its journey with impressive results. This despite the absence of several major sports, such as wrestling, badminton, shooting, and table tennis. Nevertheless, Indian athletes brought glory to the country with their impressive and historic performances.
After all the events of the Games concluded on Sunday evening, the final medal tally was also revealed. There was no change in the position of any team in the top four. India won a total of 39 medals at CWG 2026, finishing fourth. This time, Indian athletes won 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Boxing won the most gold medals (7 for a total of 10).
Some highlights of the Indian campaign
- Boxing: Indian boxers dominated the competition, winning a record 10 medals, including seven gold medals, the most among all nations. For the first time, India won more than three gold medals.
- Weightlifting: Mirabai Chanu made history by winning her third consecutive gold medal. She became the first Indian to do so. A total of eight medals came in weightlifting.
- Para Sports: Para athletes produced their best performance by winning 3 gold medals, including the first ever gold and silver in the men’s para shot put.
- Judo: In the last Games, India won three medals in Judo for the first time, including two silver medals. This time, Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh became the first Indians to win gold medals. Including these two gold medals, India’s total in Judo is four.
- Athletics: Tejaswin Shankar (bronze) became the first Indian to win a medal in the decathlon. Gulvir Singh won silver and bronze medals in the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively. This was also a first for India at the CWG. Sarvesh Kushare (silver) became the first Indian to win a medal in the high jump.
Australia scores a hat-trick
As for the overall medal table, Australia dominated for the third consecutive Games, winning the most medals. Australia won a total of 171 medals (43 silver and 56 bronze), including 70 gold. England (110 medals, including 29 gold) and Canada (62 medals, including 19 gold) were in second place. Host Scotland finished below India in fifth place (39 medals, including 13 gold).
