Commonwealth Games 2026: Team India performed brilliantly in judo at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh won gold medals for India in judo. Following this, Yamini Maurya also competed in the women’s 57 kg judo final. In the final, Yamini Maurya faced England’s Asleya Toprack, losing three shidos. However, this marked the first time Yamini had won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Yamini Maurya missed out on winning the gold medal
India continues to dominate the sport of judo. In the women’s 57 kg judo category, India’s Yamini Maurya suffered a narrow defeat in the final. She gave a tough fight to England’s Esleya Toprack. However, she received three shidos from the referee. In judo, yellow cards are called shidos. Although England’s Esleya Toprack also received two shidos, in the end, she won the gold medal without a point because Yamini was disqualified for receiving three shidos.
However, the result of this match wasn’t decided within the first four minutes, leading to a sudden-death match where both players were seen defending. Consequently, the match lasted for over two minutes, but no one could score any points. With this, Yamini’s dream of winning gold was shattered.

Yamini Maurya reached the finals with a stellar performance
Yamini Maurya faced Donna Breytenbach in the semi-final, where she delivered a remarkable performance to advance to the final. In the quarter-final, Yamini defeated Frema Agyei. India had the opportunity to secure a hat-trick of gold medals in judo, but they missed it. However, gold medals from Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh have further improved India’s performance in this edition. So far, India has won 14 medals in judo at the Commonwealth Games, including two gold, six silver, and six bronze.
