Community restroom inaugurated in Da Nang commune

The project aims to improve environmental sanitation and living conditions in ethnic minority communities. The facility includes a wastewater filtration and treatment system designed to process used water from bathing, laundry, and handwashing activities.

Song Kon Commune is known for its strong cultural traditions, with many community events and festivals taking place at the Guol house, an important communal gathering space. However, the area previously lacked public restroom facilities, creating inconvenience for residents and visitors while affecting local sanitation conditions.

To address the issue, Hope Foundation partnered with local authorities to build the restroom facility in Village K8. Construction was carried out between February and April 2025 with a total investment of nearly VND145 million (US$5,510).

Nguyen Huu Sanh, vice chairman of the Song Kon Commune People’s Committee, said at the inauguration ceremony that the project helps improve public hygiene awareness while supporting local new rural development goals.

“Local authorities highly appreciate the support from Hope Foundation and the contributions of K8 villagers, who donated land, crops, and labor to ensure the project was completed on schedule,” Sanh said.

He also called on residents to use and maintain the facility responsibly to ensure its long-term effectiveness.

The project received support from Change The One, an Australian volunteer-run charity organization supporting disadvantaged communities in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region.

“We believe that these small but essential facilities can have a significant impact on community health,” said Peter Nicholls, founder of Change The One. “We hope residents will work together to maintain the facility properly.”

On the same occasion, Hope Foundation and Change The One carried out additional charitable activities in Da Nang, including rental support for the Thien Tam Social Assistance Center in Tay Ho Commune and the donation of 50 bicycles to students in Tra My Commune and Dien Ban Dong Ward.

The organizations also previously donated an RO water filtration system to Hoa Mi Kindergarten in Song Kon Commune.

The total value of support and donations in this phase reached nearly VND170 million (US$6,500), implemented in coordination with the Da Nang Charity and Child Rights Protection Association and the Dien Ban Dong Ward Farmers’ Association.

To date, Hope Foundation and its partners have contributed more than VND12 billion ($455,760) to projects in the region, including the construction of eight educational facilities, renovation of six schools, donations of electronic libraries, and healthcare support initiatives.

Founded in 2017, Hope Foundation is a social fund licensed by Vietnam’s Ministry of Home Affairs and operated by Read and FPT Corporation.
