Preparations for the upcoming assembly elections may also be included in the agenda of the meeting.
There will be discussion on Election Commission and SIR
The CWC meeting is going to be held at a time when the political debate is intense regarding the functioning of the Election Commission and SIR. According to a report in The Indian Express, Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had filed objections at least 14 times on some decisions and orders related to the voter list and SIR in the last 10 months. According to the report, these objections included issues related to changes in Form 6, the process of adding and deleting names in the voter list and the management of the electoral roll database.
However, the Election Commission has said that it is part of the normal process for different opinions and suggestions to emerge during internal deliberations in a multi-member constitutional body. The Commission has also said that its final decisions are taken under prescribed legal and statutory procedures.
Congress's strategy regarding CEC Gyanesh Kumar
Congress's future strategy regarding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is also likely to be discussed in the CWC meeting. Congress has demanded action against Kumar on this issue and his removal from the post. The party leadership can review the current political situation and consider its strategy for the coming times. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will preside over the meeting. It is likely to include former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior leaders.
The last CWC meeting of Congress was held on August 19 at Indira Bhawan in Delhi. In that meeting also the current political situation and various issues related to the party were discussed. Now in the meeting on September 29, issues related to Election Commission, SIR and upcoming elections may remain prominent before the Congress leadership.
