According to information available on the official website of the Supreme Court, Kheda has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) on Sunday, and the case has been registered as diary number 25523/2026. This petition, filed at around 6.26 pm, is currently listed as ‘pending’.

This petition comes two days after the Gauhati High Court refused to grant pre-arrest bail to Kheda. A single-judge bench of Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia had ruled that the Congress leader was ‘not entitled to the privilege of pre-arrest bail’.

Gauhati High Court, while rejecting his petition, had said that this matter cannot be called merely a case of defamation. There is prima facie evidence to make out a case under Section 339 of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), 2023. Assam Police had registered a case of defamation and forgery against him.

This case has been filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Kumar Sarma. He had filed an FIR against Kheda. Kheda had recently claimed in a press conference that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma had several foreign passports and undeclared properties abroad.
