The political atmosphere heated up in Delhi on Tuesday when Congress leader and National President of All India Unorganized Workers and Employees Congress (KKC) Dr. Udit Raj was taken into custody by the police. Udit Raj and Congress workers suddenly protested outside the Delhi headquarters of RSS located at Keshav Kunj. The protesters also burnt copies of Manusmriti and symbolic uniforms of RSS while raising slogans.
'The country will be run by the Constitution, not by Manusmriti'
During the demonstration, the protesters raised slogans – “The country will be run by the Indian Constitution, not by Manusmriti.” This sudden demonstration created a stir among the security agencies. Police reached the spot and removed the protesters and detained some people including Udit Raj.
Demonstration against Haldwani incident
The immediate reason for this protest is being said to be the alleged 'purification' ritual after the meeting of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Congress and its associated Dalit organizations have strongly condemned this incident. They allege that this is a caste insult to Dalit leader Kharge. The controversy escalated further when an FIR was registered against Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi had publicly raised questions on the Haldwani incident.
Udit Raj said- 'I burnt Manusmriti'
After being detained, Udit Raj told ANI, “I have been detained. I came to Keshav Kunj RSS headquarters… I burnt Manusmriti. Our leader Mallikarjun Kharge was insulted and FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi.”
Cited Ambedkar's legacy
Before the performance, Udit Raj presented it to Dr. B.R. Linked to the historical legacy of Ambedkar. He said that on December 25, 1927, Ambedkar had burnt Manusmriti in protest against caste inequality. Udit Raj alleged that the RSS and the government were trying to promote the principles of Manusmriti in place of the Constitution.
