Lucknow, Read A new political turmoil has erupted in the country after the Central Government announced major amendments in the 'Agneepath Scheme' related to army recruitment. Taking a dig at this move of the Centre, National President of Media Department of Congress Party Pawan Kheda attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party. He taunted and said that due to the speed with which BJP is retreating from its decisions and changing its policy, the name of the party should now be 'Bharatiya Janata Palti' instead of 'Bharatiya Janata Party'.
Decision linked to assembly elections, asked- why is there a need for change now?
Congress leader Pawan Khera criticized the government's decision on social media platform 'X' and linked it to the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Himachal Pradesh. He said that a large number of youth of the country come from these states to join the army and there was huge dissatisfaction regarding the scheme. He raised the question that when the opposition was continuously demanding a review of the future and scheme of Agniveers, the government remained silent and now took a U-turn as the elections were approaching.
Congress questions on the opportunity of becoming a regular soldier after 6 years of service
It is noteworthy that as per the announcement of the Central Government and Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General NS Raja Subramani, now Agniveer will get an additional service extension of 2 years after 4 years (total 6 years). After this, 75 percent of Agniveers will also get a chance to become regular soldiers in the permanent cadre on the basis of fixed selection criteria.
Congress claims that the government has to make these changes to avoid political pressure and anger of the youth in the upcoming elections, while the government says that this decision has been taken on the basis of detailed assessment and review of the performance of Agniveer.
