The case was being heard by a bench of Justice Girish Kulkarni and Justice Dr. Neela Gokhale. The court directed BMC to re-post the removed video of Dia Mirza on its social media handles.

BMC had posted a video appealing to prevent pollution

BMC i.e. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation had shared the video of Dia Mirza on its social media account on November 1. In this, the actress was seen appealing to people to take care of environment and health while celebrating Diwali. Describing the pollution caused by firecrackers as harmful, he had said that the festival should be celebrated with happiness instead of noise. Along with the video, BMC had also said that as per the directions of the Bombay High Court, bursting of firecrackers is banned on public roads, streets and footpaths.

Video removed after objection from BJP leader

Hours after the video was posted, Mumbai BJP President Amit Satam objected to it. Tagging BMC on social media platform X, he said that people do not need to learn from Dia Mirza how to celebrate Diwali and traditions are linked to culture.

After this BMC removed Dia Mirza's video from its account. However, awareness videos from other celebrities including Madhuri Dixit, cricketer Ajinkya Rahane and Marathi actress Nishigandha Wad remained on social media. Questions were raised only when Diya's video was removed.

Dia Mirza told part of the awareness campaign

After the video was removed, Dia Mirza said that it was recorded for the purpose of awareness on the instructions of Bombay High Court and BMC. Describing air pollution as a serious concern, he said that efforts to reduce it should be welcomed. According to the actress, she has been working on issues related to environment and air quality for the last decade. Now after the instructions of the High Court, order has been given to re-post the video.
