Kotdwar. The heat of social media controversy related to the Royal Mosque of Ujjain reached Kotdwar in Uttarakhand. Deepak Kumar alias 'Mohammed Deepak' has been arrested by the police for allegedly threatening and assaulting a shopkeeper following a dispute over a comment on a social media post. Police have registered a case against him under sections 115 and 351 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
Controversy started from comment on Facebook post
According to the police, on September 28, Deepak Kumar had posted a two-minute video on social media regarding the incident related to the Shahi Masjid of Ujjain. In this he had talked about finding a peaceful solution to the matter and protesting peacefully. This post was commented on by Arvind, brother of Sanjeev Tank, a textile businessman from Kotdwar. After this, the dispute between the two parties is alleged to have increased.
Accused of abusing after reaching the shop
According to the complaint, Deepak Kumar reached Sanjeev Tank's shop located at Gangadatt Joshi Marg on Thursday morning. It is alleged that there he abused and threatened to kill. The complainant told the police that Deepak had come to the shop angry over the comments made on social media. Allegations of altercation and assault have also been made during the incident.
CCTV footage also included in the investigation
It has come to light that the incident was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the shop. After receiving the complaint, the police have included the footage and other evidence in the investigation. Police say that further action will be taken on the basis of available evidence and facts emerging in the investigation.
Case filed under two sections of BNS
According to Pauri Garhwal SSP Sarvesh Panwar, an FIR has been registered against Deepak Kumar under sections 115 and 351 of BNS. Section 115 deals with intentionally causing hurt, while Section 351 deals with criminal intimidation. The police have arrested him and investigation into the case is ongoing.

Deepak Kumar alias 'Mohammed Deepak' came into limelight on social media in January this year after he came out in support of an elderly Muslim shopkeeper in Kotdwar. At that time, he was seen standing in the crowd in favor of the shopkeeper and described himself as 'Mohammed Deepak'. Now he is in the news again due to the case filed after the social media controversy related to the Shahi Masjid of Ujjain.
