Cricket world shocked by the demise of Amanpreet Singh: Virat Kohli said – ‘I am shocked’, Yuvraj Singh also paid emotional tribute

Chandigarh. Former India Under-19 and Punjab fast bowler Amanpreet Singh Gill died on Wednesday in Chandigarh at the age of 36. The cause of his death is not yet known. Gill was Virat Kohli’s teammate in Under-19 cricket. He played six first-class matches for Punjab between 2006 and 2008 and took 11 wickets.

He was also a part of Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) during the first IPL and later became a member of the senior selection committee of Punjab. Punjab Kings players wore black armbands to pay tribute to Amanpreet during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on Wednesday night.

Kohli tweeted that he was “shocked and saddened” to hear the news, while Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to Gill, saying, “Deeply saddened to hear the demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill. We shared the dressing room together in our early days. He was a calm, hard-working cricketer and loved the game very much.”

Punjab Cricket Association also expressed its condolences by tweeting – “Punjab Cricket Association expresses its deepest condolences on the tragic demise of former Punjab cricketer and Punjab Senior Selection Committee member Amanpreet Singh Gill. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.”

Gill played several Youth ODIs and one three-day Youth “Test” match for India in 2007. During that time he also toured England, Malaysia and Sri Lanka with the team. However, he could not make it to the Indian team captained by Kohli, which won the 2008 Under-19 World Cup.
