Lucknow, 7 May. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formally inaugurated the first phase of Census-2027 in the state on Thursday. In the program organized at the Chief Minister’s residence, he inaugurated the house listing and house counting work with the spirit of ‘Our Census, Our Development’.
CM Yogi said on this occasion that census is not just a calculation of population, but is a strong basis for holistic, inclusive and planned development. Today is the era of data-based decisions and accurate data obtained from census plays an important role in the effective implementation of infrastructure, education, health, social security and various public welfare schemes. Census is a medium to ensure that even the last person in the society can participate equally in the stream of development.

House listing and house counting in the first phase
The Chief Minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, digital census is being conducted for the first time in the country. In the first phase, work related to house listing and house counting will be done. The option of self-counting has been made available to the general public from May 7 to May 21, 2026, through which citizens will be able to enter their information on the digital platform themselves. After this, under field work, census personnel will go door-to-door and do the listing work. In the second phase, every person will be counted. This time caste enumeration has also been included in the census. Also, for the first time, forest villages are also being included in the census process.
Special census portal developed
CM Yogi said that real time data is very important in the present times. The use of digital technology has made the census process more transparent, effective and quick. For this, a special census portal has been developed, through which continuous monitoring of works can be ensured up to village and ward level.
The current estimated population of UP is approximately 25 Ten million 70 Lakh
He said that the current estimated population of Uttar Pradesh is about 25 crore 70 lakh. Census work will be conducted in 18 divisions, 75 districts, 350 tehsils, 17 municipal corporations, 745 other urban bodies, 21 cantonment councils, 57,694 gram panchayats and about one lakh four thousand revenue villages of the state.
For census work approx. 5.47 deployment of lakh personnel
CM Yogi said that for the successful conduct of this massive work, about 5.47 lakh personnel are being deployed, which includes 4.50 lakh enumerators, 85 thousand supervisors and 12 thousand state and district level officers. Apart from this, about 5.35 lakh personnel have been provided training for both the phases.
Call for active participation from the people of the state
He called for active participation from the people of the state considering the census as a national responsibility. He said that every person should get his census done at only one place and provide correct and factual information, so that accurate and effective outline of development plans can be prepared. He also congratulated all the officers, employees and citizens associated with the census work.
