Cut On Fuel, Encourage Work From Home: 5 Big Appeals By PM Modi Amid Global Oil Supply Crisis

Hyderabad: : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to citizens to adopt responsible lifestyle changes as global tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt oil supply chains and push international fuel prices higher.

Addressing a public gathering in Hyderabad, the PM Modi said patriotism today also means making responsible daily choices that help strengthen the country during economic uncertainty. He stressed that conserving fuel, reducing imports and supporting domestic industries could help India manage the impact of the ongoing global crisis.

PM Modi’s Focus on Fuel Conservation

The Prime Minister urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport such as metro services, buses and railways wherever possible.

He also encouraged people to adopt carpooling and reduce unnecessary private vehicle usage to lower fuel dependency.

Modi said the country must collectively work toward reducing pressure on foreign exchange reserves caused by rising global oil prices and supply disruptions linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Work From Home and Virtual Meetings Encouraged

Recalling practices adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister suggested that offices and organizations should consider work-from-home arrangements, online meetings and virtual conferences wherever feasible.

According to him, reducing daily travel could significantly help in lowering fuel consumption during the ongoing international uncertainty. Modi also promoted the use of electric vehicles as part of India’s long-term energy sustainability goals.

Appeal To Reduce Foreign Spending

In another major appeal, Modi urged citizens to avoid non-essential foreign travel and destination weddings abroad for the time being.

He also requested families to postpone unnecessary gold purchases for at least one year, saying lower imports would help India preserve valuable foreign exchange reserves.

The Prime Minister further encouraged people to prioritize domestically manufactured goods over imported products, including daily-use items such as footwear, bags and accessories.

Message for Farmers and Rural India

Modi also addressed the farming community and advised farmers to reduce chemical fertilizer usage by up to 50 per cent wherever possible.

He encouraged the use of solar-powered irrigation systems instead of diesel pumps as part of the government’s broader push toward energy independence and sustainable agriculture. Additionally, Modi asked citizens to prefer domestic tourism over international travel to support the local economy.
