Cyclone Arnab, which has formed in the Bay of Bengal, has been lashing Chattisgad for the past three days. This has disrupted life in Raipur, Bilaspur, Bastar, Durg and Sarguja. Rivers and canals are overflowing and communication between villages has been lost.
The officials here have given orange and yellow alert to many districts and have appealed to them to contact the disaster management in times of crisis. Chief Minister Vishnudev Say has ordered the Collector and concerned departments to monitor the situation.
Many houses under water
Due to heavy rains in Mahasamund district for the past two days, many citizens have been shifted to safer places. Also, due to the continuous rains, the rivers here have become muddy. Also, due to the release of water from the Gangrel Dam into the river, there has been a threat to the villages on the banks of the river and many houses have been submerged.
Two workers were trapped in a liquor shop in Bamhani village after it was submerged in water. He released a video saying that he is safe. After some time, the rescue team brought them out safely.

Alert issued to 18 coastal villages
The local administration has issued an alert for 18 villages on the banks of the river. Bastar, Mandal and nearby districts were worst affected by Cyclone Arnab. Traffic has been badly affected due to river water entering the road.
Gangrel Dam at Dhamtari was 98 per cent full and its 14 gates were opened. 50 thousand cusecs of water from the dam was released into Mahanadi. On the other hand, the Murumsilli dam is full to capacity (100 per cent), while the Dudhwa and Sondhur dam levels at Balod have gone above 90 per cent.
