Da Nang launches Bill Gates-inspired mountain tea tasting tour

A tea appreciation tour inspired by U.S. tech billionaire Bill Gates’s visit to Ban Co Peak in Da Nang in central Vietnam has launched with an eye on high-spending tourists.

Designed as an immersive two-hour experience and launched on July 25 by the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches management, it features a tea-opening ceremony, a traditional tea brewing performance, and Vietnamese tea tasting set surrounded by the mountain scenery.

The venue is the highest point of Ban Co Peak near the famous chess-playing deity statue.

To ensure privacy and maintain premium standards, each tour accepts a maximum of only 10 guests.

There are two fixed daily time slots to avoid interfering with general visitors, with the sunrise session starting at 5:00 a.m. and the sunset session at 6:00 p.m. from March to September and 5:00 p.m. from October to February.

The tour was inspired by the momentum generated by Gates’s visit and tea-tasting experience in March 2024.

It will be trialed for two years and evaluated before schedules are finalized.

Located 700 meters above sea level, Ban Co Peak is the highest point on the Son Tra Peninsula, and offers panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and Da Nang City.
