New Delhi, September 7, 2026 – The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh on September 07, 2026 approved the purchase of approximately Rs. Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) i.e. in-principle administrative approval was given to various acquisition proposals of defense forces at an estimated cost of Rs 1,10,000 crore. For the Indian Army, approval was given to purchase Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Recce Vehicles, High Mobility Vehicles (HMV), Self-Propelled Mechanical Mine Layers (MML), Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs), Troll Tanks and Sarva Bridge System.

CBRN Recei vehicles will be able to detect, identify, monitor and mark areas contaminated with CBRN agents. HMVs will enhance operational capabilities, logistics support and mobility in challenging terrains. MMLs will achieve the desired operational capability in terms of rapid and responsive minelaying in difficult terrain. ALHs will perform complex missions for the Indian Army and Indian Air Force in all terrains and operational conditions. The trawl tanks and bridge system will be used to provide composite crossing to combat formations while operating in diverse terrains.

For the Indian Navy, AoN was approved for procurement of Arudra radar, design and development of Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) and subsequent procurement. The Arudra radar will replace the existing air route surveillance radars at various naval air stations and the MGT, which houses the warship propulsion system, will reduce dependence on foreign vendors.
For the Indian Air Force, various proposals were approved to increase the combat capability of fighters, transports and helicopters. Approval was also given for procurement of Ground-Based Multi-Purpose Gemor (GBMPJ) and installation of Defense Forces Secure Access Card (DEFSAC) system. GBMPJ will provide effective jamming against adversary radars and DEFSAC will introduce interoperable Radio Frequency Identification-based smart card system to replace the existing paper-based identity cards/passes/permits. Of the total AoNs approved, approximately 98% procurement will be from Indian industry.
