The former captain Dasun Shanaka is set to return to ODIs after being named in the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming tour of England.
He will be returning to the limited-overs format since January 2024, after earning a recall to the Sri Lanka squad. Meanwhile, Uncapped legspinner Sachindu Colombage will be the other inclusion in the ODI setup.
However, Milan Rathnayake and Pramod Madushan have been omitted from the squad that clinched a rain-affected three-match ODI series 1-0 in the Caribbean.
Dasun Shanaka’s return will significantly bolster the middle order with much-needed experience in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup. Currently, he has played 71 ODIs and scored 1299 runs at an average of 22.39.
He has 27 wickets in 71 games, with a best return of 5/43. Kusal Mendis will be leading the side and will be returning after recovering from injury, while Charith Asalanka has been appointed as his deputy.
Pathum Nissanka, who has been in terrific form lately, will bolster the top of the order along with Kamindu Mendis, Janith Liyanage, and Pavan Rathnayake to strengthen the middle order.
Meanwhile, the bowling attack includes Maheesh Theekshana, Sachindu Colombage, Dushmantha Chameera, Eshan Malinga, Asitha Fernando and Dilshan Madushanka.
Meanwhile, for the T20I series, Lahiru Udara and Tharindu Rathnayake come into the squad, while Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando provide additional pace-bowling options.
The tour begins with a T20I series on September 16 at Southampton, while the 2nd game will be played on 18 at Cardiff. The final T20Is will be played on September 19 at Manchester.
The ODI series will begin on September 22 at Chester-le-Street, while the second match will be played on September 24 at Headingley. The final ODI will be played on September 27.
