Daveigh Chase’s cause of death confirmed

Daveigh Chase, the former child actor, died of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and other critical conditions, including chronic polysubstance use.

The official cause of death was confirmed through the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s records. Chase died on June 16 in a hospital, and the manner of her death is written as natural.

The Lilo & Stitch voice star passed away at the age of 35 when her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, announced her death on June 17.

It was initially said that Chase died from complications of meningitis, as the infection in her blood caused “septic issues,” which caused her organ failure.

Chase began acting at the age of seven, appearing in commercials before landing guest roles in television series including Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Charmed, The Practiceand IS.

Her early film career included playing Samantha Darko in Richard Kelly’s 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko.

She went on to voice Chihiro in the English dub of Spirited Away before earning widespread recognition as the voice of Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch franchise.

The actress further cemented her status with her chilling portrayal of Samara Morgan in The Ring. She later appeared in HBO’s Big Love and reprised her Donnie Darko role in S. Darko.

Following her appearance in the 2016 horror film Jack Goes HomeChase largely stepped away from acting.
