Deadly attack by militants in Manipur, 2 Assam Rifles soldiers martyred

New Delhi: The bloody face of violence once again came to light in Manipur on Monday. Suspected militants ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy in Ukhrul district. In this attack, two Assam Rifles soldiers were martyred and many others were injured. According to police, the incident took place around 1.30 pm in Nungshang Khong area of ​​Ukhrul district. A convoy of 40 Assam Rifles was passing through this route. Then the militants sitting in ambush suddenly started firing. Two soldiers were martyred on the spot in the attack.

How did the attack happen?   

According to media reports, many soldiers were hit by bullets and were immediately taken to the hospital. There was chaos in the area after the attack. As soon as the information was received, additional security forces were sent to the spot. A search operation has been started by surrounding the entire area. The aim of the security forces is to catch the attackers as soon as possible.

Governor and Home Minister condemned!   

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla issued a statement from Raj Bhavan strongly condemning the attack. He said that there is no place for this kind of violence in the society. such attacks by the government "Collective resolve to maintain peace and security" Cannot be weakened. State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam also termed the attack as unfortunate.

He said such attacks harm efforts to restore normalcy in the violence-hit state. The Home Minister assured that the security forces will take all necessary steps to give strict punishment to the culprits as per law. The culprits will not be spared.

Why has violence increased in Manipur?   

Ethnic violence has been ongoing between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in Manipur since May 2023. Since then, security forces are continuously conducting search and domination operations in sensitive areas.

More than 260 people have died so far in this conflict. Thousands of people are forced to leave their homes and live in relief camps. Despite several peace talks and security arrangements, the situation in the state has not become completely normal.

This attack of Ukhrul is being considered as another episode of this long struggle. Security agencies are now focusing on breaking this entire network so that further such attacks can be stopped.
