Deficiency of blood and vitamins during pregnancy can become a “silent killer”, do not ignore these symptoms even by mistake.
Becoming a mother is a very special and beautiful experience in every woman’s life. Amidst the happiness of the family, preparations to welcome the new guest and the glow on the face of the expectant mother, there is a serious problem hidden which often goes unnoticed. That problem is the lack of essential nutrients in the body. Even today, a large number of pregnant women in India are suffering from severe deficiency of iron, vitamin D and vitamin B12. The most troubling thing is that the symptoms of these deficiencies appear very slowly. This is the reason why most women ignore them considering them to be a part of normal pregnancy and this negligence becomes costly.
Body is giving these signals so be careful
Many changes occur in the body of women during pregnancy. But if you are facing problems like constant extreme fatigue, sudden dizziness, pain all over the body, feeling weak, difficulty in sleeping at night or frequent mood changes, then do not take it lightly. All these signs indicate that there is a severe deficiency of essential nutrition in your body, which can prove dangerous for the child in the future.
Why is lack of nutrition becoming a problem during pregnancy?
If we look at the recent reports of the Health Ministry, the problem of anemia (blood deficiency) is still very common among women of childbearing age in India. This problem becomes more serious during pregnancy. On this matter, senior gynecologist Dr. Shweta Mendiratta says that during pregnancy, huge internal changes take place in a woman’s body, due to which her nutritional needs also increase significantly.
But many women in our country enter this phase with weak nutrition levels even before conceiving. Lack of proper eating habits for years, constant mental stress, heavy pressure of office or household work and lack of blood during menstruation every month makes a woman’s body already weak from within.
What is lacking the most during pregnancy?
Iron deficiency is the most seen and most common problem in pregnant women. According to doctors, during pregnancy, a woman’s body has to produce a large amount of blood for the better development of the baby in the womb. This is the reason why the body suddenly needs more iron. When the body does not get enough iron, severe anemia occurs.
Due to iron deficiency, pregnant women start having problems like shortness of breath, extreme weakness and feeling dizzy all the time. If the condition becomes more serious, the risk of premature delivery and the baby being born with very low birth weight also increases to a great extent. According to doctors, taking Vitamin C along with iron-rich food can be very beneficial. For example, squeezing lemon on spinach vegetable or eating tomato with lentils greatly improves the absorption of iron in the body.
Why is there vitamin deficiency despite abundant sunlight?
It is very surprising that even in a country like India, where there is abundant sunshine for 12 months of the year, Vitamin D deficiency among pregnant women is increasing very rapidly. Experts consider our modern and changed lifestyle to be the biggest reason behind this. Nowadays people spend most of their time indoors or in closed offices in front of computer screens, due to which the body does not get direct and adequate sunlight.
Vitamin D is essential for the strong development of the baby’s bones, his immune system and the digestion of calcium in the mother’s body. Many medical researches have also revealed that due to deficiency of Vitamin D, the risk of dangerous diseases like gestational diabetes and high blood pressure (high BP) in pregnant women increases manifold. The National Institutes of Health and many prestigious medical institutions of India have expressed deep concern over this situation.
Vegetarian women should take special care of this
Apart from all this, Vitamin B12 deficiency is also being seen more and more often in pregnant women these days, especially those who are strictly vegetarian. Vitamin B12 is considered most important for the proper development of the child’s brain and nervous system. Due to its deficiency, a woman has to face problems like tingling in hands and feet, weak memory and constant physical weakness. Health experts clearly say that pregnancy does not just mean eating too much food, but the most important thing is that you include balanced, colorful and nutritious food in your diet.
