In IPL 2027, the coaching staff of Delhi Capitals can be seen in a completely new style. Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and former Indian leg spinner Amit Mishra are going to become the bowling coaches of the team. Both will play the role of coaches in IPL for the first time. Along with him, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will take over as the head coach and former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will take over as the batting coach. However, Delhi Capitals has not yet officially announced these appointments.
Chaminda Vaas is among the most successful fast bowlers of Sri Lanka. He has taken 355 wickets in Tests and 400 wickets in ODIs. Vaas has played for Deccan Chargers in the first three seasons of IPL i.e. from 2008 to 2010. 52-year-old Vaas’s coaching experience has mainly been in international cricket. He has coached the Sri Lankan men’s team in different eras.
Vaas has also worked as a consultant with the New Zealand team and was associated with Ireland during the 2016 World T20. In Sri Lankan cricket, he has also played an important role in preparing young bowlers as a fast bowling consultant and academy mentor. In franchise cricket, he has been the head coach of NYS Lagos in the 2024 Zim Afro T10 and Kandy Royals in the LPL 2026.
Whereas Amit Mishra’s IPL career has been very brilliant. He played for Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants. Mishra, 42, played his last IPL match in 2024 and retired in September 2025.
Mishra had a blast by taking five wickets in the very first match of IPL. He is the only bowler to take three hat-tricks in the tournament. He has taken 174 wickets in 162 matches in IPL and bowled at an economy of 7.37. Except 2022, he played in IPL every season from 2008 to 2024.
Vaas and Mishra have also started work in their new roles. Both are currently working with DC’s academy players in Delhi.
The changes in the coaching staff are part of the agreement between DC co-owners GMR Sports and JSW Sports after IPL 2024. Under this, both the owners will operate the franchise by turns for two years. Venugopal Rao was the Director of Cricket, Hemang Badani was the Head Coach and Munaf Patel was the Bowling Coach during GMR’s tenure in 2025 and 2026. Now a new coaching setup of Delhi will be seen in the next cycle.
