“Delhi is not far now”—everyone must have heard this saying. But for Delhi Capitals, the destination still feels far away. They reach within touching distance every year, yet the trophy remains beyond their grasp.
Perhaps no supporters are waiting for WPL 2027 more eagerly than Delhi’s fans. After four seasons of coming so close, they want their team to finally bring the trophy home.
Calling Delhi Capitals the champions of the WPL league stage would hardly be an exaggeration. They finished on top in three of the first four seasons and reached the final every year. Even last season, when they finished third in the league, they fought their way into the title clash.
Unfortunately, every final has ended in disappointment. Their WPL trophy cabinet tells the same painful story: four runners-up finishes and no championship title.
Can Delhi Capitals Finally Win WPL 2027?
Delhi did not overhaul their squad at the auction, but they already had a balanced team. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kapp and Laura Wolvaardt give them a strong core, while Annabel Sutherland’s expected return adds another major match-winner.

Sutherland missed WPL 2026 for personal reasons. Her presence this season would strengthen both departments, giving Delhi another powerful batting option and a bowler capable of taking important wickets.
Among the new additions, Kirstie Gordon could prove particularly valuable. The Scotland left-arm spinner qualifies as an Associate-nation player, allowing Delhi to select her alongside four other overseas players. That gives the team room to strengthen its spin attack without sacrificing one of its established overseas options.
Kiran Navgire brings another attacking option with the bat. Even if she produces decisive performances in just one or two important matches, that contribution could make a real difference to Delhi’s title challenge.
The team has enough quality to enter another season among the leading contenders. After four consecutive final defeats, their fans will be hoping that this time, consistent performances are rewarded with the trophy.

Delhi qualified directly for the final as league leaders in the first three seasons. In 2026, they took the longer route, beating Gujarat Giants by seven wickets in the Eliminator after finishing third.
| Season | League Position | Final Result | Final Opponent | Defeat Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1st | Runners-up | Mumbai Indians | 7 wickets |
| 2024 | 1st | Runners-up | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 8 wickets |
| 2025 | 1st | Runners-up | Mumbai Indians | 8 runs |
| 2026 | 3rd | Runners-up | Royal Challengers Bengaluru | 6 wickets |
Their 2026 league campaign produced four wins, four losses and eight points. Winning the Eliminator showed their ability to recover, but the final brought another setback.
Delhi have repeatedly shown that they can reach the biggest stage. The challenge in 2027 is to deliver the winning performance when the trophy is on the line.
