New Delhi:After the incident of gang rape of a minor in a moving bus in Noida, the Delhi government has prepared to take a big decision regarding the safety of public transport. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that buses coming to Delhi from neighboring states will be linked to the GPS system. Its purpose is to keep an eye on the location of buses and help the police or related agencies to take immediate action in case of any emergency.
Buses from outside states will also be monitored
Under the government plan, buses from outside states entering Delhi will be linked to a GPS based monitoring system. With this, information about the location of the bus and its route can be obtained in real-time. In case of any suspicious situation or emergency, the concerned agencies will be able to take rapid action by ascertaining the position of the bus.
The Chief Minister has indicated that coordination will be done with neighboring states to implement this system. Its objective is to strengthen the safety of all passengers including women and children.
How did the whole matter come to light?
This incident is being told on the night of 4th August. The 16-year-old student, resident of Mainpuri, had left the house angry with her mother. She wanted to go to her relative living in Noida Sector-63. During this time she boarded a bus.
Due to heavy rain, it landed at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. There the conductor of a bus told him that it was a bus going to Sector-63 and asked him to sit in it. According to the police, after a technical fault occurred in the bus, it was taken to a workshop in Surajpur.
It is alleged that during this time the driver and conductor of the bus allegedly gang-raped the minor. After this, both the accused fled leaving him near Kashmiri Gate. Police have arrested both the accused in the case.
Emphasis on safety of women and children
This incident has raised serious questions regarding the safety of women and children in public transport. Expressing concern over the incident, the Chief Minister said that the role of driver and conductor is very serious.
The government is trying to keep a better eye on the activities of buses through GPS monitoring system. In the coming time, after talks with neighboring states, further steps can be taken towards implementing this scheme.
