Delhi Traffic Police has announced special traffic arrangements for October 2, 2026, as events will be held at Rajghat and Vijay Ghat to mark Gandhi Jayanti and the 122nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Several prominent leaders are expected to attend the programmes. In view of the events, traffic restrictions and diversions will be introduced on several roads in central Delhi to maintain smooth movement and ensure public convenience.
According to the traffic advisory, the arrangements will remain in effect from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM on October 2covering a period of around six hours. Special traffic measures will be implemented around Vijay Ghat, Ring Road and adjoining routes.
12 Key Points Where Traffic May Be Regulated
During the morning hours, traffic may be diverted, restricted or regulated at 12 important intersections and locations.
These include ITO Chowk, Delhi Gate, Guru Nanak Chowk, Shantivan Chowk, Rajghat DTC Depot, IP Flyover, Salim Garh Y-Point, Salim Garh Bypass Cut, Raja Ram Kohli Marg near the loop towards ISBT Kashmere Gate, the area under Salim Garh Flyover, T-Point on Subhash Marg and the Golden Mosque Cut on Nishad Raj Marg.
Motorists using these routes may face temporary restrictions or diversions depending on traffic conditions and the movement of vehicles associated with the events.
Major Roads Likely to See Traffic Pressure
Despite the closure of schools, colleges and government offices for Gandhi Jayanti, several important roads could experience congestion between 5 AM and 11 AM.
The affected routes include the Ring Road stretch from Rajghat to Salimgarh Y-Point and ISBT Kashmere Gate, Nishad Raj Marg, Raja Ram Kohli Marg and BSZ Marg between ITO Chowk and Delhi Gate.
Traffic may also be affected between Shantivan Chowk and IP Flyover, while vehicles travelling on Asaf Ali Road from Delhi Gate towards N.S. Marg could also face restrictions. Other potentially affected stretches include the route from Guru Nanak Chowk to Ranjit Singh Flyover and the road connecting Rajghat DTC Depot with the Ring Road Bypass.
Delhi Traffic Police Issues Travel Advisory
People travelling towards Rajghat, Vijay Ghat, ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi Gate and ITO have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
Commuters should avoid the affected roads wherever possible and consider using the Delhi Metro or other public transport services instead of private vehicles.
The traffic police has also advised motorists not to park vehicles along roadsides and to use only designated parking areas. Commuters are requested to follow instructions from traffic personnel deployed along the affected routes and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements.
