Delhi under heightened security as CJP protest begins at Jantar Mantar
Delhi Police and paramilitary forces were deployed across several key locations in the national capital on Saturday as supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) gathered at Jantar Mantar for a protest led by the party’s founder, Abhijeet Dipke.
The demonstration, which focuses on examination-related concerns and demands the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhanprompted authorities to strengthen security arrangements across the city. Officials said additional personnel were stationed at sensitive locations to maintain law and order and ensure the protest remained peaceful.
The gathering marks the beginning of a campaign that has drawn attention through social media and student networks in recent weeks.
Dipke arrives in Delhi, calls for peaceful movement
After arriving in the national capital from the United StatesDipke expressed his enthusiasm about meeting supporters at the protest venue. In a post on X, he said he was “looking forward to meet all at Jantar Mantar” and urged participants to maintain a peaceful approach. “We have to lead this movement with love and peace,” Dipke wrote, reiterating the message that organizers have consistently promoted ahead of the protest.
Earlier this week, he had announced plans to return from Boston to launch the campaign and had appealed to supporters not to gather at the airport, citing public convenience and security concerns.
Protest centered on examination-related issues
The protest has been organized around concerns related to examination and recruitment processes. Dipke has called for the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhanarguing that accountability is needed over issues that have affected students and aspirants. Supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar carrying placards and banners as organizers prepared for speeches and other activities planned during the demonstration.
The campaign has attracted attention from student groups and individuals advocating education reforms and transparency in examination systems.
Sonam Wangchuk’s statement adds attention
The movement gained additional visibility after education reform advocate and climate activist Golden Wangchuk stated that he would join the protest if the Education Minister did not step down by June 5. His remarks increased public interest in the demonstration and brought further attention to the demands being raised by organizers.
However, the focus at Jantar Mantar remained on peaceful participation and raising concerns through democratic means.
Security tightened across key locations
Authorities significantly enhanced security arrangements ahead of the gathering. Police officials confirmed that personnel had been deployed at Jantar Mantar, Indira Gandhi International Airportmajor border entry points, and other sensitive areas across the city. The objective, according to officials, is to ensure public safety, regulate crowd movement, and prevent any disruption during the protest.
Traffic and security personnel were also seen monitoring movement around the protest venue throughout the day.
What happens next?
As the protest continues, attention will remain on crowd participation, speeches by organizers, and any response from government authorities regarding the demands being raised. For now, Jantar Mantar has become the focal point of the movement, with supporters gathering under heightened security while organizers continue to emphasize peaceful and lawful protest.
The coming hours are expected to determine the scale and impact of the demonstration as authorities maintain a close watch on developments across the capital.
