New Delhi, Read. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Thursday demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Accusing him of “weakening voters' rights”, the party warned that if he does not step down within 48 hours, a nationwide agitation, including “Jantar Mantar 2.0”, will be launched.
CJP founder Abhijit Deepke, addressing a press conference here, alleged that the electoral process has been “rigged” and citizens are being deprived of their right to vote. He said that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign within 48 hours, the party will launch a nationwide agitation before protesting in Delhi.
Deepke said that in case the CEC does not resign, “Jantar Mantar 2.0” will be done. Regarding the opposition parties, he said that if they feel that elections are being rigged then they should not participate in the elections. He said that political parties will have to decide their stand on this issue.
COJPA called Gyanesh the biggest threat to democracy
Calling Gyanesh Kumar the “biggest threat to Indian democracy”, the CJP founder accused the Election Commission of deciding who will be allowed to vote. He also demanded criminal action against the CEC.
This statement comes a day after a report by English daily 'The Indian Express'. The report claimed that two election commissioners—Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi—had repeatedly raised questions on issues related to the “Special Intensive Review” (SIR) of the voter list in the three-member Election Commission. On the other hand, the Election Commission said that differing opinions during deliberations are part of the normal process and all its decisions are in accordance with established statutory procedures.
