Increase in dengue cases in Delhi, 52 cases recorded in April, highest in last 5 years
According to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) data, 52 dengue cases have been reported in the capital in the month of April, the highest during the same period in the last five years. According to the official, this increase is clearly visible in comparison to the trends of the last few years. If we look at the figures, 42 cases were registered in the same period in 2025, 31 in 2024, 24 in 2023 and 12 in 2022. This indicates that dengue cases are continuously increasing in the early season.
The latest data from Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) regarding dengue cases in Delhi has increased the concern. According to the report, a total of 107 dengue cases have been recorded in the capital in the first four months of 2026. Data has also revealed that there has been an increase in dengue cases in the month of April, which indicates that the effect of the infection has started becoming visible in the initial season itself. Additionally, cases of malaria have also been recorded during this period, indicating limited but still present prevalence as in previous years.
Health department and municipal corporation officials have now started preparations in view of the possible increase during monsoon. Officials say measures like water logging, monitoring of mosquito breeding sites and fogging are being intensified to keep the situation under control in the coming months.
As per the latest report, 29 cases of malaria have been recorded in Delhi till April this year. This figure shows some decline compared to last year, but the situation cannot be called completely normal. According to the data, 39 cases were reported in the same period in 2025 and 35 cases in 2024, while in 2023 the number was 15. That means the cases this year are definitely less than previous years, but more than in 2023.
Officials say intermittent rains in April are believed to be a major reason for the rise in cases as it created favorable conditions for mosquitoes to breed. In view of this, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified precautionary measures. Anti-larva campaigns, fogging and regular inspections in construction sites and residential areas are being implemented more strictly to prevent the spread of diseases like dengue and malaria.
This year, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its campaign to control mosquito-borne diseases. According to the data, a large number of houses have been inspected so far as part of anti-malaria activities. Till May 2, officials have visited more than 12.15 lakh houses. This number is higher than previous years as more than 11.99 lakh houses were inspected in the same period in 2025 and more than 10.44 lakh houses in 2024. Officials say that this time the anti-larval spraying and fogging campaign has also been intensified more than before, so that the breeding of mosquitoes can be stopped at the initial stage itself.
During inspection under this campaign, conditions for breeding of mosquitoes were found in 15,649 houses. This number is almost equal to the 15,662 homes recorded last year in 2025, making it clear that the risk level still remains. Taking serious note of the situation, the civic body has issued 16,261 legal notices and initiated prosecution in 1,712 cases. Its objective is to take strict action against those violating the rules and to stop negligence. Apart from this, scientific methods have also been used for mosquito control. MCD has carried out 358 “Guppy-8” interventions at a cost of about Rs 1.04 lakh, using larva-eating fish to control water-borne mosquito larvae.
