New Delhi, 6 November 2026: The Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the Finance Ministry has been awarded the 'PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award' (second place) for its pioneering role in green energy by installing solar energy systems in government buildings. This national award was conferred by the Vice President of India during the concluding session of 'India Renewable Energy Summit and Expo 2026' organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) has demonstrated an extraordinary organizational commitment by successfully achieving the target of 100% solarization of all identified and feasible buildings under its administrative control. Out of a total of 4,144 buildings under DFS, 2,576 buildings were considered suitable for solarization after technical assessment conducted based on roof penetration heights, building ownership, shadow profile and load-bearing parameters. DFS entities have successfully commissioned rooftop solar PV plants on all 2,576 potential buildings, achieving a total installed clean capacity of 61.50 MW.
The award ceremony was organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in association with the 9th General Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the 4th International Council on Green Hydrogen (ICGH). In this program, DFS was given this multilingual award under the category “Most Solarized Buildings by Central Ministries/Departments”. Receiving the PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award further strengthens the active and determined role of financial institutions towards India's comprehensive 'Net-Zero' goals and sustainable development.
