Devastating Bangkok Pub Fire claims twenty seven lives
twenty seven dead, several hurt as Bangkok pub bursts into flames and firefighters battle blazes at the scene of a building that caught fire.
Bangkok: At least 27 people died, and dozens of others were injured when a huge fire gutted a pub in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district shortly before midnight on Monday.
Firefighters took hours to bring the fire under control after the blaze swept through the venue, trapping numerous patrons inside.
Thai officials said 63 people were hospitalized, with at least 22 in a critical condition.
Rescue workers discovered multiple victims huddled near the restrooms at the back of the building, indicating they took refuge from the smoke but couldn’t reach an exit.
According to the report, the fire began after smoke started issuing from an electrical circuit breaker near a stage, and the facility lost power with a loud explosion.
Investigations are still underway to ascertain the fire’s cause, with forensic experts investigating the scene.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has assured a probe into the inferno, and the government has called for a review of fire safety regulations.
The incident has reignited the country’s debate about fire safety, especially in the nightlife industry that has seen a number of fatal club fires in the past.
