New Delhi .After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, a new claim has come to light regarding the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May 2025. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that Iran had supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. However, his claim does not make it clear in what form the support was given, nor has there been any clear official response from Iran in this regard.
India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May 2025 in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. 26 people were killed in the attack in Pahalgam. After this, the Indian Army took military action targeting terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied areas. India had presented this operation as a targeted action against terrorism.
In a written reply to the Pakistani Parliament, Ishaq Dar mentioned Iran's support during the May 2025 conflict with India. He said that relations between Pakistan and Iran have improved in the last two years. According to him, Pakistan had provided diplomatic and political support to Iran during the conflict with Iran in June 2025. In return, Iran supported Pakistan during the confrontation with India in May.
However, Dar's statement did not provide details about the nature of the support. It was also not clarified whether Iran had supported Pakistan at military, diplomatic, political or any other level. For this reason, many questions still remain regarding this claim. Based on available information, there has been no confirmation of any direct military role by Iran in favor of Pakistan during Operation Sindoor.
Ishaq Dar had already visited Iran in May 2025. During that time he had mentioned the role of Iran and the relations between the two countries in the context of the conflict with India. However, even in the current statement it was not made clear as to what level of alleged support Pakistan actually received.
Regarding Operation Sindoor, India has consistently said that the objective of the operation was to target the terrorist infrastructure linked to the Pahalgam attack. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also later said the objective of the operation was to destroy terrorist camps. According to him, the center of action was those targets which were considered responsible for the Pahalgam attack.
Meanwhile, India has also made its stand clear regarding future talks with Pakistan. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had said that there will be no talks on any issue other than Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. India has long been claiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as its integral part.
The military conflict between India and Pakistan that started in May 2025 continued for several days. After this there was a ceasefire between the two countries. It was made clear from the Indian side that no third party had any role in stopping the conflict. In such a situation, Pakistan's latest claim regarding Iran's alleged support during Operation Sindoor is certainly important in the context of regional diplomacy and India-Pakistan relations, but clear information about its actual nature and level is yet to be revealed.
