Patna: There are signs of differences within the ruling NDA in Bihar regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). After Union Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement of implementing UCC before 2029 in BJP and BJP-led governments, a different stand has come from Janata Dal United (JDU). Senior JDU MLA Shyam Rajak has clearly said that the question of implementing UCC in Bihar does not arise.
Shyam Rajak said that JDU had definitely supported the bill related to UCC in the Parliament, but at the same time it was made clear that it would not be implemented in Bihar. He said that the party still stands by its old stand.
'UCC will not be implemented in Bihar'
According to the JDU leader, the NDA government in Bihar is running on the basis of alliance. Apart from JDU, other allies including Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha are also included in it. In such a situation, he said that there is no possibility of implementing UCC in the state. This statement of Shyam Rajak has come at a time when Amit Shah presented the central government's plan regarding UCC in Mumbai on Sunday. Shah had said that the BJP and BJP-led NDA governments would implement the Uniform Civil Code in 21 states before 2029.
Amit Shah enumerated the achievements of the government
While talking to the media in Mumbai, Amit Shah mentioned the achievements of the Narendra Modi government's tenure at the Centre. He also included decisions like the law on triple talaq and the Indian Judicial Code as important steps of the government. Shah claimed that after the implementation of the Indian Judicial Code, the conviction rate in many states has improved by about 30 percent within a year. He said that the government is preparing such a system so that the victims can get justice within three years.
What is Uniform Civil Code?
UCC means applying uniform law in personal and family matters to all citizens of the country. Under this, there is talk of a uniform legal system for matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance, division of property, adoption and maintenance. At present in India, personal laws of different communities are applicable in these civil matters.
