World News: A big and disturbing news is coming out for Indian travelers traveling to Europe. Europe's new Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully implemented from 10 April 2026, but instead of improving the facilities of passengers, this digital border system is becoming a big problem for them. Under this system, fingerprint and facial biometric scanning has been made mandatory for travelers coming from all non-European Union (non-EU) countries including India, due to which the old tradition of passport stamping has now become history.

According to reports from various aviation organisations—ACI Europe, IATA and A4E, the peak waiting time at some major airports in Europe has increased to 5 hours in July 2026. Due to this huge delay, many passengers have even missed their connecting flights. Wait times at major transit hubs such as Frankfurt and Amsterdam have doubled during July. Soon after the launch of this system in April, ACI Europe had warned that the average wait at the airports of many countries was 2 to 3 hours or more.
According to experts, the real problem is not in the use of this technology, but in the initial registration. According to the European Commission, checking in once a passenger is registered takes an average of only 70 seconds, but almost every first-time non-EU traveler must go through the registration process. Apart from this, reasons like technical glitches, insufficient number of kiosks and e-gates and shortage of border staff have made the situation more serious.
