Disha Patani faces trolling over outfit at Ganpati celebrations

Bollywood actress Disha Patani has faced criticism online after attending the Ambani family’s Ganpati celebrations in Mumbai wearing a red lehenga with a deep-cut blouse.

The actress arrived at the festive gathering in a traditional red ghagra featuring intricate embroidery and detailed embellishments. She paired the outfit with a matching blouse with a plunging neckline and carried a dupatta over one shoulder. Disha completed her look with statement earrings and wore her hair loose.

While the 34-year-old actress looked glamorous at the event, her outfit quickly became a topic of discussion on social media. Several users criticised her choice of clothing and argued that the revealing blouse was not suitable for a religious celebration.

One social media user compared the reaction to the criticism previously faced by actress Kriti Sanon, writing, “Kriti Sanon ko troll krne walo zra yha bhi dekhlo,” suggesting that people who had criticised Sanon should also react to Disha’s outfit.

Another user commented that most guests had dressed more modestly for the occasion, adding that Disha “can never wear a fully covered dress.” A third social media user also criticised the actress for repeatedly choosing similar blouse styles for different occasions.

“I am not against the dress but this fashion is not for pooja purpose,” another user wrote while expressing disapproval of her look.

The criticism continued as more comments appeared under pictures and videos from the celebration. One person said Disha could have chosen “something nicer” for the religious gathering, while another sarcastically questioned whether she had attended the Ganpati celebration or arrived to perform a song.

Another harsh comment criticised her understanding of appropriate clothing for religious and festive occasions.

Despite the backlash, Disha’s appearance also attracted attention for her overall traditional styling. Her heavily embroidered red lehenga, jewellery and simple hairdo gave her a glamorous festive look, although the design of her blouse remained the main focus of the online discussion.

The controversy comes shortly after Kriti Sanon faced a similar debate over her appearance in a jewellery advertisement. In August, Sanon was criticised for wearing a bralette-style blouse in a GIVA campaign linked to Raksha Bandhan.

The advertisement became controversial on social media, with some users arguing that the styling did not match the cultural significance of the festival. The issue also attracted comments from actress and politician Kangana Ranaut.

Sanon later defended her appearance and choice of clothing. Responding to the criticism, she shared a statement on Instagram that read, “Culture & Traditions are in her heart, not in her neckline.”

The controversy eventually led GIVA to remove the advertisement. The company said the decision was made out of respect for Indian culture and also referred to safety concerns involving its stores and staff.

Disha’s latest trolling highlights the continuing debate around celebrity fashion at religious and cultural events. Bollywood celebrities are often closely watched for their traditional looks, with their clothing choices quickly becoming subjects of discussion online.

On the professional front, Disha Patani was recently seen in Awarapan 2 alongside actor Emraan Hashmi. The actress is also preparing to expand her career internationally with her Hollywood debut in The Portal of Force, which is directed by Kevin Spacey.
