Domestic LPG cylinder becomes expensive again, increase of Rs 29 increases burden on consumers
Tezzbuzz Desk- Common people have got another shock of inflation. The prices of domestic cooking gas (LPG) cylinders have been increased by Rs 29 per cylinder. The new rates have come into effect from today i.e. June 7. After this, the price of 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has increased from Rs 913 to Rs 942.
This is the second time in the last three months that domestic LPG prices have been increased. Earlier on March 7, cylinder prices were increased by Rs 60. Continuously rising prices have put additional pressure on the household budget.
According to industry sources, fuel prices remain high in the international market due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia and disruptions in global energy supply. This has had a direct impact on the cost of LPG in India. Government oil marketing companies are also facing huge financial pressure amid rising costs.
Sources say that before the latest price hike, government companies were incurring a loss of about Rs 703 on each domestic LPG cylinder sold. For this reason, revision of prices was considered necessary.
Before the increase in domestic LPG prices, the government had increased the prices of commercial gas cylinders. On May 1, the prices of 19 kg commercial cylinders were increased, while smaller 5 kg cylinders also became costlier. After this, on June 1, the prices of commercial cylinders were increased by an additional Rs 42.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that the supply of LPG in the country remains completely normal. According to the ministry, there is no report of gas shortage or distribution disruption in any area. The government also said that constant monitoring and action is being taken to stop hoarding and black marketing.
The government says that despite the crisis arising in the Hormuz region, all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG in the country. The country’s refineries are operating at high capacity and have ample reserves of crude oil. Also, preparations have been made to deal with possible supply challenges by increasing domestic LPG production.
Experts believe that if the prices of crude oil and gas continue to rise in the international market, then there may be further pressure on fuel prices in the coming time. At present, due to the implementation of new prices, an increase in the monthly expenditure of domestic consumers is considered certain.
