The controversy around Ranveer Singh’s exit from Don 3 refuses to die down. For over a month, the feud between Farhan Akhtar and Ranveer Singh has been grabbing headlines. Following months of disagreement, the movie’s producers, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, have approached the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), while Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, Ranveer’s father, has now decided to hold talks with the association. The producers had sought IMPPA’s intervention in the dispute a month ago.
According to a Times of India report, Farhan and Ritesh filed a complaint with IMPPA and presented documents related to Don 3 before the organisation. They also showed the agreement signed between the two parties and informed the association about the promotional video that had already been made for the movie.
IMPPA president Abhay Sinha said the filmmakers had approached the association with their concerns. “Farhan and Ritesh approached us with a complaint against Ranveer and sought our intervention in the matter last month. We subsequently wrote to Ranveer asking him to respond,” he told the publication.
Farhan and Ritesh reportedly discussed with IMPPA how Ranveer’s last-minute withdrawal from the movie had caused complications. According to IMPPA committee member Nishant Ujjwal, the producers submitted their signed contract and told the association that a promotional video for the movie had already been shot. They also showed a message from Ranveer in which the actor had initially expressed excitement about being part of the project.
Since the underlying reason for Ranveer’s exit remains unknown to the association, IMPPA intends to meet with the actor’s father or his representative shortly. The body will hear Ranveer’s side before deciding what, if any, further action should be taken in the dispute.
Ranveer’s team initially questioned IMPPA’s jurisdiction
The matter did not move forward immediately. Ranveer’s lawyer initially maintained that the dispute was outside IMPPA’s jurisdiction and, therefore, the actor would not participate in the proceedings.
That position has now changed, with Ranveer’s father stepping in and expressing a willingness to meet the producers’ body.
Abhay Sinha said the association has also received communication from a lawyer confirming that Ranveer’s side is ready to attend the meeting once a date is fixed.
“However, three days ago, Ranveer’s father approached us and expressed their willingness to meet,” he added.
How the Don 3 dispute began
The controversy began in April when Farhan and Ritesh approached the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) over Ranveer’s exit from Don 3. Things escalated in May when the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation notice against the actor.
However, the directive was withdrawn just eight days later following IMPPA’s intervention, as the association wanted more time to discuss the matter in detail. FWICE later explained that while different producer associations had been informed about the proposed action, it was decided that no final step should be taken until all parties had been given an opportunity to present their views in a collective discussion.
Reports of a fallout between Ranveer, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment surfaced in December 2025. The actor was reportedly keen to walk away from Don 3 after the success of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar.
After Ranveer’s exit, Farhan later approached FWICE, claiming that Ranveer’s decision to leave the project had caused the producers losses of around ₹45 crore. The dispute eventually escalated, with FWICE issuing a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer after Farhan approached the federation.
The directive prompted a response from Ranveer’s team. His spokesperson released a statement on the actor’s behalf, stressing that he had deliberately remained silent on the matter and wanted to keep the issue professional.
The statement said Ranveer “holds the highest regard for the film fraternity” and everyone associated with the Don franchise, adding that he had chosen to maintain silence because professional discussions and personal equations were best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.
