New Delhi : The Election Commission has decided to give one more chance to the voters who were excluded from the electoral roll during the Special In-depth Revision (SIR) process to re-incorporate their names. This directive of the commission will be applicable to seven states namely Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana and Nagaland.
Previously named in the electoral roll; However, during the SIR process, only those voters whose names have been omitted from the draft voter list due to being registered under categories such as absentee, migrant, dead or repeat voter can avail this opportunity. Citizens who have never been registered in the voter list before cannot be registered through this process. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again raised the issue of SIR process. He claimed that the names of crores of people are being reduced from the electoral roll in the name of this process.
Meanwhile, earlier on October 29, the Supreme Court had raised serious questions about the haste in the SIR process in Delhi. According to statistics, before SIR there were about 1.45 crore voters. However, the names of only 97.53 lakh voters were included in the draft voter list released on August 31. So about 47.57 lakh names were omitted. Like Bihar, these seven states also received complaints of omission of names of living persons from the voter list by showing them as dead or absent.
Name can be re-registered by filling Form-6
The commission has clarified that if the name is not in the draft voter list, the concerned voters can get their name added again by filling Form 6. No censure of false affidavit will be held for this or any legal action will be taken. Therefore, the eligible voters whose names have been removed from the list can apply to get the right to vote again.
