E20 petrol spoils the game of car? Now the company will have to pay compensation worth lakhs
New Delhi: These days, a new debate has started in India regarding ‘Ethanol Blended Petrol’ i.e. E20 fuel. The government has increased the amount of ethanol in petrol to save the environment, but now the anger of common car owners has started reaching from the roads to the courts. What has been revealed in a recent survey by ‘LocalCircles’ has increased the concerns of the automobile sector and the government. According to this survey, if vehicles are damaged, now every second person is ready to go to court.
Shocking survey figures: ‘Now there is a fight between each other’
According to India Today report, this survey conducted on more than 22,000 car owners from 316 districts has given strong indications. When people were asked whether they would seek legal compensation if their car was damaged by E20 petrol, the results were surprising:
- 45% people They clearly said that they will adopt consumer court or other legal avenues.
- 27% people Believe that they will demand compensation directly from the car company or the oil company.
Overall, a large section of people are now considering it as a concern for their ‘pocket and vehicle security’. There are only 14% people who said that they will not escalate this matter.
Raipur Consumer Commission’s decision became an example
This anger has not come suddenly. On July 14, Raipur Consumer Commission gave a historic decision, which has boosted the morale of car owners. A customer had complained that due to the use of E20 petrol, the engine of his ‘Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara’ was repeatedly breaking down and the performance of the vehicle had reduced. The court directed Maruti Suzuki and its dealer to either give a new car to the customer or refund Rs 20.5 lakh, along with a compensation of Rs 1 lakh. However, Maruti Suzuki has made up its mind to challenge this order in the higher court.
Consumer demand: ‘We need options’
Through the survey, customers have placed a big demand before the government. People say that the government has made E20 mandatory at petrol pumps, but this fuel is not suitable for old petrol vehicles. Customers are demanding that petrol with low ethanol content (like E5 or E10) should be made available at petrol pumps along with E20. People want the freedom to choose the right fuel as per the capacity of their vehicle.
At present, this survey has made it clear that if the series of vehicle malfunctions due to E20 fuel is not stopped, then there may be a flood of such cases in the courts in the future.
