Clash of central employees-pensioners! You may get the gift of dearness allowance this month
New Delhi: The month of July is at its last stage, but the eyes of more than 50 lakh central employees and 65 lakh pensioners of the country are still fixed on a big announcement of the government. The discussion is about increase in Dearness Allowance (DA). In the era of rising inflation, everyone is worried about when the increased salary money will come into their bank account. Now the question is that if the announcement is not made in July, then when is the government going to give this good news?
Why is the announcement of dearness allowance being postponed?
The entire mathematics of increase in dearness allowance depends on the data of ‘All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers’ (AICPI-IW). As per the rules, the government is waiting for the data for June 2026, which is yet to be released. Due to slight delay in the data, now the suspense has deepened as to when this gift will come out from the government treasury. However, experts believe that the government will give its approval soon after the June data comes out.
Your DA may increase by 3% to 4%
If we look at the AICPI data till now, this index was 149.1 in March, 149.9 in April and 150.8 in May. Experts estimate that this figure may reach 151.7 in June. Looking at this trend, it is expected that this time there will be increase in dearness allowance. 3% to 4% There may be an increase. At present, central employees are getting 60% DA, which was increased from 58% to 60% in April 2026.
Will you get ‘Diwali gift’ this time?
Even if the government does not take any official decision on dearness allowance in the month of July, there is no need for the employees to be too disappointed. If we look at the trend of the last few years, the government has often been giving big gifts to the employees during the festive season. This year Diwali is in November, so there is every possibility that the government may make it a special ‘Diwali gift’ for the employees by announcing the increase in dearness allowance in October or November.
Who will get the benefit and how?
About 1.15 crore (employees + pensioners) people of all other central departments including Railways, Defense Department will get the direct benefit of this increase. Dearness Allowance is a part of the basic salary, hence its increase not only increases the in-hand salary, but also results in a big jump in the Provident Fund (PF), gratuity and pension. As per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, the government revises DA twice a year—for January and July, and now all eyes are on the July revision.
