AFC Champions League 2: East Bengal FC came close to victory in Jordan’s Amman but ended up with a point. The Red and Yellows led 2-0 in the first half against Al Hussain in their AFC Champions League 2 Group D match. Dani Ramirez and Anwar Ali took control of the match with East Bengal. But the picture of the match changed in the second half. Jordan’s team equalized by scoring two goals in a row. In the end, the match was a draw with 2-2 goals.
A point against the Jordanian champions on foreign soil, however, is an important achievement for East Bengal. Especially at a point in the match when the Red-Yellows were leading 2-0, Al Hussain’s return ruined the chances of three points.
One point in the first match
East Bengal got one point from their first match in Group D. However, there will be some regret in the red-yellow camp as the victory was missed even after leading by 2-0. Much of the control and attacking football that was seen in the first half disappeared in the second half.
Tough group fight
East Bengal’s group includes Al Hussain, Iraq’s Al-Shorta and Oman’s Al Seeb. As a result, every point will increase in importance in the next matches. Opening points in a match can change the group equation quickly.
Al-Shorta in front
East Bengal’s next group match is on October 13. The Red-Yellow will go against Iraq’s strong team Al-Shorta at home. This match is therefore becoming very important after the one point in Amman. East Bengal’s goal will be to collect points by using their home advantage.
The road to the knockouts is still open
A 2-2 draw against Al Hussain did not end East Bengal’s chances of going into the knockout stages. However, red-yellow should show consistency in the next matches. It will become especially important to collect maximum points in home matches and secure minimum points in away matches.
2-0 to 2-2 — East Bengal’s campaign is far from over, despite a win in Amman. Rather, from the next match, the real test of handling the difficult equation of the group will begin in front of the red and yellow.
