What is the importance and history of Eid-ul-Azha?

Actually, according to Islamic beliefs, this festival is celebrated in memory of the sacrifice of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim Alaihissalam. It is being told that to test his courage, God had asked for the sacrifice of his most beloved thing. Without any hesitation, Hazrat Ibrahim decided to sacrifice his only son Hazrat Ismail in the name of God.

As soon as he put the knife on his son’s neck, by the order of God a Dumba (sheep-like species) appeared there and his son’s life was saved. Since then, this tradition of sacrificing one’s most precious thing or animal for the sake of God has been going on. There is a rule to divide the meat received on this day into three equal parts – one part for the poor, the second for relatives and the third for one’s own family.

The real purpose of today is to include the backward and needy people of the society in our happiness. The markets are vibrant, children are frolicking in new clothes and the smell of vermicelli and delicious dishes is coming from every house. Overall, this splendor of the festival shows that the real beauty of our country lies in its colorful culture and mutual brotherhood.
