The Kshatriya deeply regretted his crime.
According to legend, a powerful Kshatriya lived in a village. He had a short temper. One day, he had an argument with a Brahmin over something. The situation escalated to the point where the Brahmin died during the confrontation.
Brahmins told the way of atonement
After this incident, the Kshatriya felt deep remorse for his actions and feared the sin of brahminicide. He wanted to atone for his sin by attending the Brahmin’s funeral, but the Brahmins present there stopped him. They said that he must first atone for his sin. The Kshatriya asked them for a way to attain salvation.
The Brahmins told him that he should observe a fast on the Ekadashi (the Ekadashi) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Sawan, worshipping Lord Vishnu with devotion, and also donate as much as he could to the needy and Brahmins.
The Kshatriya took refuge in Lord Vishnu.
He advised him to seek refuge in Lord Vishnu and repent wholeheartedly. The Kshatriya observed the Kamika Ekadashi fast according to the prescribed rules. He worshipped Lord Vishnu with full devotion and offered Tulsi leaves as a part of the puja and sincerely repented for his crime.
