Lucknow. The month of September may bring relief for about 3.73 crore electricity consumers of Uttar Pradesh. The impact of reduction in June fuel surcharge under the Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) may be visible on the electricity bill in September. It is believed that consumers' bills may be reduced by 7.50 percent or more.
There have been continuous changes in electricity bills in the last few months. In June, consumers were charged an additional fuel surcharge of 10 percent. After this, there was a reduction in the bill by 4.43 percent in July and about 2.92 percent in August. Now it is expected that there will be a big relief in September.
The commission had expressed objection regarding the old payment
The Electricity Regulatory Commission had objected to the method of Power Corporation regarding surcharge related to power purchase and old payments. The Commission clarified that fuel surcharge should be calculated on the basis of actual power purchase cost and transmission charges. Liabilities of any other month cannot be included in this. After this there was a change in the calculations of FPPCA and consumers started getting relief in the bills. Now the benefit of adjustment based on June's cost is likely to be available in the September bill.
Biggest relief till now may be available in September
According to Consumer Council President Awadhesh Verma, due to increased transparency in FPPCA calculations, consumers are getting the benefit of relief on time. The reduction in fuel surcharge in September may impact electricity bills and may be the biggest relief for consumers so far. However, how much will be the final relief, it will be clear only after the official order from the Power Corporation.
