Gorakhpur. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that nine and a half years ago, every conscious parent used to be worried after seeing children suffering from encephalitis and childhood dying in eastern Uttar Pradesh, but now this worry has ended. He said that like mafia and mosquitoes, encephalitis has also been eliminated. Now we are seeing new Gorakhpur and new Uttar Pradesh in the new era. The Chief Minister said that the government is starting the facility of dialysis units of ten beds each in all the district hospitals of the state. CM Yogi was addressing the inauguration ceremony of the charitable blood bank run by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Gorakhpur on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Yogi inaugurated the Charitable Blood Center by cutting the ribbon and visited the center and took information about the facilities, equipment and arrangements available there. Referring to the positive changes in the health services of Eastern Uttar Pradesh from the stage of the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said that nine and a half years ago, BRD Medical College of Gorakhpur was the main center of health facilities in this region. The situation was such that up to four patients were admitted on the same bed. There was an encephalitis ward on the third floor and there was a lack of fans, toilets and other necessary facilities.
He said that earlier the BRD Medical College itself was unhealthy, today it has become a super specialty center and a major center for the treatment of various diseases including encephalitis. The Chief Minister said that AIIMS has also been established in Gorakhpur. Medical colleges have been started in various districts including Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Gonda, Ayodhya and Ambedkarnagar. There are 75 districts in the state, while the number of medical colleges has increased to 85. Two AIIMS are also operational. MBBS seats have increased from 4600 to more than 13500 and PG seats have doubled. Nursing and paramedical education is also being expanded.
Chief Minister Yogi said that at one time the identity of every district of the state was linked to some deadly mafia. Doctors became their victims. In Gorakhpur, doctors were kidnapped, extortion was demanded from them, threatening calls were received and they were beaten up by entering their chambers. He had to protest on the streets along with doctors against these incidents. He said that today doctors, businessmen and citizens in the entire state including Gorakhpur are feeling safe. Now the state is not being identified with the mafia but with the goal of 'One District, One Medical College'.
Explaining the importance of blood donation, the Chief Minister said that modern infrastructure, technology, medicines and resources can be made available but blood cannot be manufactured. He said that blood donation is a symbol of the compassion through which a person gives new life to a needy person. He also expressed concern that the supply of blood is not as per the demand. CM said that for this, doctors should motivate people towards voluntary blood donation. Appeals and awareness campaigns for blood donation should be conducted from time to time using social media platforms.

CM Yogi also warned about professional blood donors. Said that if professional blood donors suffering from various diseases are not effectively curbed, a serious risk of infection may arise. Along with bringing such activities to the notice of the government and administration, doctors should also get involved in awareness programs. In his address, the Chief Minister openly praised the social concerns of IMA. Said that IMA is not just an organization of practicing doctors. It has set an example of social responsibility by starting a charitable blood center after free OPD in Gorakhpur.
Chief Minister Yogi said that the real identity of any organization is determined by how much it contributes in taking the benefit of its expertise to the person sitting at the last rung of the society. He said that in 2017-18, IMA had started free OPD in Sitapur Eye Hospital, Gorakhpur. After this, when IMA asked for land for its office, it was helped in providing the plot through Gorakhpur Development Authority. IMA has made better use of this plot of land by setting up a Charitable Blood Centre, which will contribute in providing blood to the needy patients of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Referring to the beginning of Guru Gorakhnath Hospital under the guidance of his Gurudev Brahmalin Mahant Avedyanath Ji Maharaj, the Chief Minister said that earlier there was discussion of starting the hospital with 10 beds, but with the cooperation of the doctors of Gorakhpur, it was made a 100-bed hospital in the beginning itself. This hospital showed that hospitals, blood banks and ICUs can be run successfully even in charity. Facilities like blood separator, apheresis and dialysis were developed here. He said that for dialysis, people once had to go to Lucknow or BHU, today quality facility is available in Gorakhpur. The government has also started the work of making arrangements for free dialysis in the district hospitals of the state.
Welcoming the Chief Minister and other guests at the inauguration ceremony of the Charitable Blood Centre, IMA Gorakhpur President Dr. RP Shukla said that CM Yogi, with his vision, has taken the health services of Gorakhpur and the state to new heights. Under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Gorakhpur is becoming a medical hub and a new center of medical tourism. He told that the resolution of this charitable blood center of IMA with a capacity of 400 units is that no one should be allowed to die due to lack of blood. Mayor Dr. Manglesh Srivastava and Gorakhpur Rural MLA Vipin Singh also addressed the function.
