End of Nitish era in Bihar, Nitish Kumar will resign today, suspense remains on the new Chief Minister

Tezzbuzz Desk- The day of 14 April 2026 is going to be recorded as a historical turning point in the politics of Bihar. Nitish Kumar, who ruled the state for almost two decades, is going to resign from the post of Chief Minister today, which will bring an end to a long political era.

According to sources, Nitish Kumar will meet the Governor at 3.15 pm and submit his resignation. Before this, he will start his day by garlanding the statue of Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. This is being considered as one of the last public programs of his tenure.

This decision of Nitish Kumar has come at a time when he has recently taken oath as a Rajya Sabha member. After being elected to Rajya Sabha on 16 March, he resigned from the membership of Bihar Legislative Council on 30 March. Now with him stepping down from the post of Chief Minister, he can play a more active role in national politics.

Here, political turmoil has intensified in Bihar regarding the change of power. Bharatiya Janata Party has called a meeting of the legislature party at its state office today at 2 pm. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will attend this meeting as an observer. It is believed that in this meeting, the leader of the BJP Legislature Party will be chosen, who can become the next Chief Minister of the state. A meeting of the NDA Legislature Party is also proposed in the evening, while the Janata Dal (United) has called a meeting of its MLAs at the Chief Minister’s residence, 1 Anne Marg. In this meeting, JDU will select the leader of its legislative party, although now the party will be seen in the role of an ally in the government.

Many names have come forward in the race for the post of Chief Minister. Among them, Samrat Chaudhary and Shreyasi Singh are said to be prominent. Earlier the names of Sanjay Jha and Nishant Kumar were also in discussion, but now there are clear indications that the next Chief Minister will be from BJP only.

This change in the politics of Bihar is not only a change of leadership but also the beginning of a new era of power equations. Now all eyes are on who the BJP chooses as its new leader and in what direction the politics of the state moves in the coming times.
