Tezzbuzz Desk– Indian athletes continue to perform brilliantly in the Asian Games 2026. 36 year old experienced Indian athlete Manpreet Kaur won the bronze medal in the women's shot put event. With this achievement, she has become only the third female athlete from India to win a medal in the women's shot put event of the Asian Games. With this medal, India's medal tally in the ongoing Asian Games has increased to 21.
Manpreet Kaur's journey has been full of struggles. Born on 5 March 1990 in a farmer family in Patiala, Punjab, Manpreet got the environment of sports since childhood. His father and cousins were players. Initially he tried his hand in 100 meter sprint, but on the advice of his brother, he made shot put his career.
When Manpreet was just 13 years old, her father passed away. Three years later, at the age of 16, his mother became paralyzed. Despite these difficult circumstances, he did not leave sports and continued training while working in Indian Railways.
In 2015, she won gold at the 55th National Open Athletics Championships with a throw of 17.96 meters and became the only Indian woman to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
In 2017, she won gold in the Asian Grand Prix with a throw of 18.86 meters in Jinhua, China and became number-1 in the world ranking that season. However, after being found positive in the steroid test during this period, he was banned for four years from July 20, 2017. His medals and records were also cancelled.
Manpreet returned to the game after the ban ended in 2022. Now at the age of 36, he has added another historic chapter to his long and struggling career by winning bronze at the Asian Games 2026.
