Epilepsy Treatment In India : Alchem Laboratories Limited today announced the launch of anti-seizure medication (ASM) Nuceno (cenobamate) for the treatment of partial onset seizures in adult patients. Cenobamate, made available for the first time in India, represents a significant advance in the management of epilepsy. Epilepsy is a major healthcare burden in India, with nearly 9.4 million individuals suffering from the disease. Despite the availability of many anti-seizure medications, more and more patients are experiencing uncontrolled seizures. Which greatly affects their self-reliance, daily functioning and overall quality of life.
Up to 30 percent of patients are completely free of seizures
Nuseno (cenobamate) works through a unique dual mechanism of action. This drug selectively inhibits the persistent sodium influx that causes repetitive firing of neurons in the brain, and reinforces the brain's natural inhibitory signals through positive regulation of GABA-A receptors. In a randomized clinical trial of adults with uncontrolled focal seizures despite current anti-seizure medications, cenobamate as an adjunctive drug reduced seizure frequency by up to 78 percent, while up to 30 percent of patients became completely seizure-free during the maintenance phase.
