Bengaluru, 19 August 2026: A major action has been taken by the Drug Enforcement Wing of Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA). During the investigation operation, the department has seized the quantity of fake and illegal medicines worth approximately Rs 4.91 crore. Officials said on Wednesday that illegal work of re-packaging and re-labelling of unlicensed medicines was going on in a farm house in Kurubarakarenahalli area of Bidadi in Bengaluru South district. This raid was conducted by the FDA team on the basis of information received on August 18.
Investigation has revealed that cheap medicines were procured from other states and fake labels were used to make them look like expensive branded and imported medicines. Even the scanning codes in these fake medicines did not work, which shows a big fraud with the customers. During this raid, a large quantity of suspicious and counterfeit goods was seized by the department. In which 5640 vials of Cefiavigent 2.5 injection, 1531 vials of Hizlam injection, 470 vials of Xavitaz injection, 264 264 vials of Emblaveo injection and 30 boxes of expired medicines, packaging material, injection filling machines and fake labels have been seized. The total value of all these seized items is estimated at Rs. It is estimated at 4,91,49,575.
- Serious risk to patients' health
FDA Commissioner Srinivas K. According to the Ministry of Health, getting expired medicines is a matter of biggest concern, because there may be a plan to send these medicines back to the supply chain. This could have posed serious threats to the lives of patients. Samples of the seized medicines have been sent to the laboratory for further legal action and these batch numbers are being blocked on the Karnataka FDA portal. A case has been registered in this matter at Tawarekere Police Station and further investigation has been conducted as per the provisions of stringent punishment against the culprits under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
