New Delhi:The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has made a big disclosure regarding the fake videos made with Artificial Intelligence (AI) which are spreading rapidly on social media. PIB’s Fact Check Unit has termed two videos related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal as fake. In these videos, the statements of both the leaders were edited to make it appear as if they were threatening the protesting students. PIB has clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Piyush Goyal have not given any such statements. According to the agency, the audio and visuals present in the video have been tampered with the help of AI. Its purpose is to spread wrong and misleading information among the people.
PIB Fact Check Unit has said that these fake videos are allegedly being spread through handles associated with Pakistani propaganda network. Such social media accounts are continuously sharing and promoting these AI-generated clips. In these videos, the voices of the Prime Minister and the Union Minister have been changed to create a message in which they are seen allegedly threatening the students and warning them of dire consequences. PIB has advised people not to trust such videos.

What kind of tampering was done in the video?
According to the Fact Check Unit, an actual video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Thursday night was digitally altered. In the original video, the Prime Minister had assured strict action against the paper leak. This footage was edited to create a different and misleading message. Similarly, the video of Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s conversation with the media outside Parliament was also digitally altered. His actual statement was presented in such a way that it seemed as if he was threatening the protesting people.
Piyush Goyal lodged a police complaint
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday that he has lodged a complaint with the police regarding one of his AI-generated deepfake videos. He says that such statements were shown in his name in the video, which he never gave. According to the minister, an FIR has been registered in this matter and strict legal action will be taken against those who make, spread or publicize fake videos.

Piyush Goyal gave information about this matter on social media platform X. He alleged that the video of his conversation with the media outside Parliament was maliciously edited with the help of AI and used to spread misinformation. The minister said that he has complained to the police and an FIR has been registered at Chanakyapuri police station. He said that action will be taken under the law against all those involved in creating, sharing or promoting fake videos.
Concern expressed over misuse of AI
Piyush Goyal said that wrong and irresponsible use of Artificial Intelligence to mislead people cannot be accepted. He appealed to the people that instead of immediately trusting every information received on social media, they must check it from official and reliable sources. The minister also said that aware citizens of India and especially the youth are able to identify and avoid such misleading content. He appealed to the people to check the authenticity of any suspicious video before sharing it further.
