Father’s Day: ‘Papa never cries’… But what really? The pain of Indian men burdened with responsibilities
When is Father’s Day: It is true that tears or crying are a reaction to our emotions, but it is equally true that tears come more quickly in women. They cry easily and express their emotions, but men express their emotions less than women.
Papa or any other man in the society does not cry or it is difficult for him to cry even when he is going through a very emotional phase in his life. After all, what is the reason for this, its reason can be both social and scientific.
Crying is very important. This reduces stress and emotional distress. Crying in pain makes the mind and heart feel lighter. This is also a big aspect for good physical and mental health, but men usually control their emotions even after losing their loved ones like parents etc. They do not want anyone to see them crying.
What do our tears tell us?
In any difficult situation, a man may not cry in front of everyone, but he cries quietly when alone or in front of his most important or trusted person. Crying indicates that we are feeling powerful emotions. Our tears contain a chemical called oxytocin, which works to increase emotional bonding. But men especially don’t want people to see them crying, so most have learned to control it. This sends the message that men are emotionally void or more rigid.
Father learns ‘not to cry’ since childhood
Men learn from their childhood through the environment around them that ‘women cry but not men’. Their brain also assimilates this and then starts reacting in the same way in every situation. But this is dangerous for their mental health.
The parts of our brain that feel powerful emotions function and allow us to deal with them, but if we have conditioned our brains since childhood to believe that men don’t cry, then those parts of the brain stop responding to emotions the way they do. This has a very bad effect on mental health.
