FC Bayern Munich launch special Diwali kit designed by Indian artist Abhay Sehgal

Blending traditional Indian craftsmanship—like block printing and intricate embroidery—with football culture, the non-commercial kit symbolizes light, hope, and the dreams of young players.

Munich: German football club FC Bayern Munich has collaborated with Indian artist Abhay Sehgal to create a special edition jersey inspired by Diwali, blending traditional Indian craftsmanship with football.

FC Bayern Munich extended warm wishes to its supporters for Diwali via an Instagram post presenting the special Diwali-themed kit, expressing hopes that the festival brings happiness, prosperity, and light to their lives.

“This Diwali, tradition meets football. Wishing all our fans a Diwali filled with happiness, prosperity and light,” the club wrote in the post.

In an official statement, the club noted: “To mark Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, FC Bayern has collaborated with artist Abhay Sehgal, who designed a special edition of the third kit, not intended for sale, using traditional Indian craft techniques. His design focuses on the dreams of young footballers.”

The one-of-a-kind shirt, crafted using traditional Indian art forms including intricate embroidery and block printing, serves as a bespoke version of the club’s third kit and will not be made available for commercial purchase.

Drawing inspiration from Diwali’s core symbolism of light, hope, and fresh starts, Sehgal’s concept honors the ambitions of aspiring young footballers and the principle that every child deserves the chance to chase their goals, regardless of their background.

The special edition kit was presented to first-team stars including Harry Kane, Serge Gnabry, Luis Díaz, and other FC Bayern players, who expressed keen interest in the detail of the design and the narrative captured within its patterns, according to the club’s statement.

The partnership highlights FC Bayern’s deep connection with its growing Indian supporter base and reflects the club’s dedication to understanding and celebrating the nation’s cultural heritage and local traditions. Merging football culture with indigenous artistry, the project highlights themes of illumination, optimism, and new beginnings.
