The Meteorological Department has today issued a ‘red alert’ warning of heavy rain for six districts of Gujarat. These districts include Morbi, Surendranagar, Rajkot and Ahmedabad. The most severe impact of the current rainfall is being seen in the Saurashtra region, where many areas are waterlogged.
The flood situation in Odisha is gradually improving; however, the rising water level in the Mahanadi basin is still posing a threat to low-lying areas. In Cuttack district, the Mahanadi water has entered the Ansupa lake, due to which a park on the banks of the lake has been submerged and a boating ticket counter has also been submerged.
The state government is continuously monitoring the situation in the affected districts including Cuttack, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Khurda. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has deputed four ministers to oversee relief and rehabilitation operations. Many families in the flood-affected areas are still facing difficulties. The administration has urged residents of low-lying and coastal areas to remain alert.
Heavy rains continue to lashed Kerala, disrupting normal life and causing extensive damage in several areas. The Meteorological Department today issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for 12 districts of the state; excluding Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. People have been advised to remain alert. Fishing activities have been banned on the coast due to adverse weather conditions and rough seas. Six people have died so far due to heavy rains, while four are missing. 17 houses have been completely destroyed and 127 houses have been partially damaged due to the rains. Relief and rescue teams are continuously monitoring the situation.
